Davido Calls Sowore ‘Arindin’ Over Criticism Of Uncle, Osun Gov Adeleke

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded to a criticism of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, by African Action Congress (AAC) leader Omoyele Sowore, calling the politician “arindin.”

The exchange occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, a day before the Osun State governorship election, as political tension and campaign rhetoric intensified across the state.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate and vocal critic of the political establishment, had taken aim at Governor Adeleke’s administration, questioning his capacity to govern the state and criticising the state of infrastructure in Osogbo, the capital.

“Demola Adeleke @AAdeleke_01 has no brains. Has nothing upstairs. The state capital, Osogbo looks like a war zone with no basic infrastructure,” Sowore wrote in a social media post.

Reacting to the post, Davido simply described Sowore as “arindin,” a Yoruba expression commonly used as an insult to suggest that someone is foolish or lacking sound judgment.

The singer’s response quickly attracted attention online, adding a celebrity dimension to the increasingly heated political exchanges ahead of Saturday’s election.

Davido, who is Governor Adeleke’s nephew, has openly supported his uncle’s re-election bid and has played a visible role in the campaign.

In April, the governor appointed the singer as the head of youth mobilisation for his campaign, formally involving him in efforts to engage young voters across the state.

Sowore, meanwhile, has continued to criticise the Adeleke administration, with his latest comments focusing largely on governance and infrastructure in Osogbo.

The clash comes as the campaign period enters its final hours, with Governor Adeleke seeking a second term in office.

Adeleke, who won the 2022 governorship election after defeating the then incumbent, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is contesting this year’s election on the Accord platform.

The APC candidate is Bola Oyebamiji, while candidates from other political parties are also seeking to unseat the incumbent governor.

Davido has remained one of the most prominent celebrity figures involved in the Osun election, combining his popularity as a music star with his family ties to the governor.

The singer also raised concerns on Friday about the credibility of the election, questioning the presence of an electoral official from Ebonyi State in Osun.

With voters set to cast their ballots on Saturday, attention will now shift from the increasingly heated exchanges on social media to the polling units, where Osun residents will determine who leads the state for the next four years.
