Super Falcons Miss 2027 Women’s World Cup For First Time in History After 2-1 Loss to South Africa

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have missed out on the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in history after suffering a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in a crucial WAFCON play-off match.

Nigeria faced the Banyana Banyana with a place in the intercontinental play-offs at stake, as the winner was guaranteed one of the two available qualification spots.

The four teams that lost in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) were battling for the two tickets to the next stage of the 2027 Women’s World Cup qualification process.

Ghana had earlier secured one of the available spots after defeating Côte d’Ivoire.
