Makinde Meets APM South-West Governorship Candidates Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has held a strategic meeting with the party’s governorship candidates in the South-West ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting brought together APM governorship candidates from key states in the region, including the party’s Oyo State candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, and Lagos State candidate, Prince Laja Adeoye.

Adekanmbi emerged as the APM’s consensus governorship candidate for Oyo State at the party’s governorship and legislative primaries held in Ibadan in May 2026. Adeoye, on the other hand, emerged as the party’s consensus candidate for Lagos State during its governorship primary in Yaba.

The strategic engagement focused on strengthening the party’s structures, coordinating grassroots mobilisation and enhancing its electoral preparedness across the South-West.

Makinde emerged as the APM presidential candidate at the party’s presidential primary held in Ibadan in May 2026. In his acceptance speech, he outlined an agenda focused on restoring hope, rebuilding public confidence and implementing reforms aimed at strengthening the Nigerian economy.

The latest meeting is part of the APM’s efforts to consolidate its political structures ahead of the 2027 elections and expand its presence across Oyo, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states.

The party is also working to improve coordination among its candidates, supporters and grassroots structures as political activities intensify ahead of the elections.

Makinde’s emergence on the APM platform followed his declaration of interest in the 2027 presidential election in May 2026, a development that has added to the ongoing realignment of political forces ahead of the polls.

Meanwhile, APM candidates in the South-West have continued to present their political programmes to voters. In Lagos, Adeoye has described his ambition as an effort to provide an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while Adekanmbi has positioned his Oyo campaign around continuity with the development agenda of the current administration.

The meeting comes as political parties and candidates step up preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the APM seeking to strengthen its structures, improve coordination and expand its political footprint across the country.
