World Bishops Council, Christian Group Congratulate Adeleke On Osun Victory, Urge Him To Focus On Osun Development

The World Bishops Council (WBC) in Africa has congratulated the re-elected Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Saturday, August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The Council also commended Osun voters for their resoluteness, noting that they ignored pre-election threats and monetary inducements to freely choose their preferred candidates.

In a statement signed by the Africa Nuncio of WBC, Bishop Seun Adeoye, and the WBC leader in Osun State, Bishop Mike Adekeye Adebomi, the Council said it had endorsed Adeleke before the election because it believed he was “God’s choice” for the state at this time.

The Council said the decision followed careful consideration and prayers in collaboration with other global WBC affiliate bodies, including the World Federation of Churches (WFC) and the World Clergy Congress (WCC).

Following Adeleke’s victory, the Council urged him not to victimise anyone or seek revenge against those who may have offended him, stressing that vengeance belongs to God.

It advised the governor to regard his victory as divinely ordained and focus on improving the welfare of the people while executing more projects that would contribute to the development of the state.

Similarly, the Religious Engagement Committee (Christianity), established in support of Adeleke’s re-election, congratulated the governor and the leadership of the state on the electoral victory.

In a statement signed by the Committee’s Vice-Chairman, Pastor Wale Akinyemi, the group said its members cut across all 30 local government areas and the five blocks of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), including its women and youth arms.

The committee assured Adeleke of its continued support and prayers, promising to mobilise support for him throughout the remainder of his tenure.

“We will always be there in prayers and supplications. We will ensure that Mr Governor succeeds in his herculean tasks. We are sure that the next four years shall bring more successes and more developmental projects,” the statement said.
