Osun Election: Adeleke Leads Oyebamiji as Results From 30 LGAs Are Collated

Incumbent Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has maintained his lead in the ongoing collation of results from the state governorship election, winning 19 of the 30 local government areas announced so far.

His closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, leads in 11 local government areas.

Results presented at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Osogbo showed that Adeleke secured decisive victories in several of his traditional strongholds, including Ede North, Ede South, Osogbo, Iwo, Ife East, Ife Central and Egbedore.

In Ede North, Adeleke polled 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283, while in Osogbo, he recorded 36,480 votes to the APC candidate’s 30,474.

Adeleke also won Ede South with 26,188 votes against 6,219; Iwo with 27,085 against 19,660; Ife East with 27,201 against 18,600; and Ife Central with 21,171 against 15,913.

One of the closest contests was recorded in Boluwaduro, where Adeleke narrowly defeated Oyebamiji with 7,118 votes to 7,050.

The APC, however, recorded victories in several local government areas, including Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakumosa West, Irewole, Atakumosa East, Isokan, Olaoluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.

In Irewole, the APC polled 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934, while in Olorunda, Oyebamiji secured 24,671 votes against Adeleke’s 23,514.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) recorded comparatively lower figures across most of the announced results, although it secured 5,053 votes in Ejigbo, its strongest showing among the figures supplied.

The election featured 15 candidates, with Adeleke, Oyebamiji and the ADC candidate emerging as the dominant contenders in the results being collated.

INEC commenced the collation and announcement of results on Sunday following Saturday’s governorship election.

The Returning Officer for the election, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, is expected to make the final declaration after the completion of the collation exercise.

With results from all 30 local government areas announced, Adeleke remains ahead of Oyebamiji in the emerging state-wide tally. However, INEC had yet to formally declare a winner as of the latest stage of the collation.

The final declaration will determine whether Adeleke secures another term as governor of Osun State or whether Oyebamiji can overturn the incumbent’s lead.
