Osun Gov Poll: Adeleke Declares August 14 Work-Free Day For Workers

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a work-free day for public servants in the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The declaration was contained in a circular signed by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina.

According to the circular, the decision was taken to allow workers who need to travel to do so and prepare to exercise their civic responsibility during the election.

The work-free day applies to all categories of public servants, except those involved in emergency and essential services.

Meanwhile, Adeleke has urged workers, their relatives and friends to come out in large numbers to vote and protect their votes during the election.

In a pre-election message to workers, the governor commended the leadership of organised labour and civil servants in the state for their support for his administration.

He described the relationship between his government and workers as mutually beneficial, while urging workers to mobilise others, including informal workers, artisans and members of professional bodies, to participate actively in the election.

“The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies. We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for,” Adeleke said.

The governor also urged workers to protect what he described as the achievements recorded by his administration over the past three and a half years.

“We must defend the gains of the last three and half years plus. Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board to labour and Osun people. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days,” he said.

The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
