Polytechnic Ibadan Gets New Rector As Makinde Approves Four Key Appointments

Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen as the substantive Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, alongside three other principal officers for the institution.

The approval, conveyed through an official letter signed on behalf of the governor, also confirmed the appointment of Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat as Registrar, Mr. Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole as Bursar, and Mr. Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola as Librarian.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, announced the appointments on Tuesday after receiving the governor’s approval.

According to the commissioner, the appointments followed a transparent and merit-based selection process that began with a public advertisement in national newspapers and culminated in interviews conducted by the institution’s Governing Council, chaired by Prof. Lanre Nassar.

Olayiwola noted that the appointments marked the end of a prolonged period during which the institution’s principal officers served in acting capacities, a situation that had persisted since 2005.

He congratulated the newly appointed officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by providing effective leadership that would further enhance the institution’s academic excellence and development.

The appointments took effect from July 31, 2026, and are for a single tenure of five years.
