APM Gets New Flagbearer As Oloyede Wins Kajola Chairmanship Primary

Akinyemi Oloyede has emerged as the chairmanship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for Kajola Local Government Area ahead of the 2026 local government elections in Oyo State.

Oloyede clinched the party’s ticket on Sunday following a keenly contested primary election conducted by the APM leadership and stakeholders in the local government.

The primary became necessary after several attempts by party leaders to produce a consensus candidate failed to reach a resolution.

A total of 15 delegates participated in the exercise.

At the conclusion of the ballot, Oloyede secured 10 votes to emerge victorious, defeating the incumbent chairmanship aspirant, Hon. Akeem Mustapha, who polled three votes in his bid to retain the party’s ticket. Other contestants, Hon. Kayode Ige and Hon. Robot Adeniyi, received one vote each.

The outcome marked a significant shift in the political dynamics of the APM in Kajola, with delegates opting for what many described as a new era of leadership, fresh ideas and renewed energy for the party ahead of the council polls.

Speaking after the election, one of the delegates commended the peaceful, transparent and credible conduct of the primary, describing Oloyede’s emergence as a true reflection of the collective will of party members.

“We congratulate Hon. Akinyemi Oloyede on this well-deserved victory. The process was transparent, credible and the people have spoken. Going forward, everyone in Kajola Local Government will unite behind him to ensure the APM records a resounding victory in the forthcoming local government election,” the party leader said.

Oloyede’s emergence is expected to strengthen the APM’s position in Kajola as the party intensifies grassroots mobilisation across the local government’s 10 wards ahead of the 2026 local government election. Party supporters believe his candidacy will foster greater unity within the APM and enhance its prospects at the polls.
