Actor Yemi Solade Slams GTBank Over N18,912 ‘Service Charge’ Deduction, Labels It ‘Independence Robbery’
Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has publicly called out Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), accusing the financial institution of arbitrarily deducting N18,912.83 from his account under the guise of a monthly service charge.
The 66-year-old film icon took to his Instagram page to share a transaction receipt dated September 30, 2026, expressing absolute bewilderment over the steep fee. In a fiery caption, Solade fiercely criticized the bank, labeling the massive debit as an act of “theft, oppression,” and “independence robbery,” referencing its occurrence right on the eve of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day.
Solade, who revealed he has been a loyal customer of GTBank since 1995, questioned the legitimacy of the transaction. “What did I buy from you? … Almost N20,000, why?” he wrote, demanding an immediate explanation for the deduction.
The actor’s post quickly generated widespread attention online, drawing solidary comments from colleagues in the entertainment industry, including actress Fathia Balogun, alongside hundreds of disgruntled banking customers who shared similar experiences regarding unexplained debits and systemic issues with commercial bank charges in Nigeria. Solade has urged other affected citizens to speak out against unauthorized financial exploitation.
