‘Agbara Nla’ Breaks Nollywood Preview Record With N71m Sales
Nollywood faith-based film, Agbara Nla: The Return, has recorded about N70m from 12,134 admissions during its preview screenings ahead of its nationwide release.
According to Nigerian Box Office, a Nigerian box-office analysis and consultancy platform, the film grossed N70m from preview screenings held between September 25 and October 1, 2026.
The performance was reported as the biggest single-day preview gross recorded in West Africa during the period.
Nigerian Box Office also reported that the film’s 12,134 admissions represented the highest first-day admissions figure recorded in 2026, while its N70m gross was the highest first-day gross for a Nollywood title during the period.
The film also recorded the highest single-day gross for October, according to the platform.
The distributor, The Nile Entertainment, had earlier announced that the film recorded the biggest first-day gross for a Nollywood title and the biggest opening for a faith-based film.
The distributor said the film’s preview earnings had surpassed N71m, describing the performance as a major milestone for the production.
Agbara Nla: The Return is now showing in cinemas nationwide, 33 years after the original film was released.
The new production is a modern reimagining of Agbara Nla, the 1993 Christian film created by filmmaker Mike Bamiloye. The original was later released in English as The Ultimate Power in 1994.
The story follows Muwonleru, a village controlled by the powerful herbalist Isawuru, as two Christian believers, Olaboye and Olatomi, leave their city lives to spread the Christian message in the community.
Mike Bamiloye reprises his role as Isawuru, while Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Bamiloye directed the new production.
The cast includes Aanu Kolade Abiodun, Remilekun Mosiko, Philip Olubakin, Gloria Mike-Bamiloye and David Kola Okeowo.
