New Academic Session: Former Oyo lawmaker, Kolade Olagunju Tasks Govt On School Security
A former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Akinyele Constituency I, Hon. Kolade Olagunju, has called on the Oyo State Government to strengthen security in schools across the state as the 2026/2027 academic session begins.
Hon. Olagunju made the call in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Monday, welcoming pupils and students back to school after the long holiday
The former lawmaker emphasized that adequate security in both public and private schools would serve as a deterrent to criminal elements and prevent a recurrence of security breaches such as the Oriire incident.
According to him, “Government must pay adequate attention to the security of our schools. Providing robust security in public and private schools across the state will send a strong signal to anyone who wants to perpetrate evil and will help prevent any occurrence of what happened in Oriire local government.”
He noted that the safety of students and teachers must remain a top priority, especially in view of rising security concerns around educational institutions in parts of the country.
Hon. Olagunju further appealed to residents of the state to support government and security agencies in strengthening the security architecture by providing timely and useful information that could forestall crime.
“Security is everybody’s business. I appeal to members of the public to cooperate with government and security agencies by volunteering information that can help secure our communities and our schools,” he stated.
The former legislator also urged parents and guardians to be more vigilant and pay closer attention to the movement and activities of their children as academic activities resume.
He advised parents to monitor their children properly, instill good morals in them, and maintain cordial relationships with school authorities for effective upbringing.
Hon. Olagunju wished all pupils and students a peaceful, safe and successful academic session, while praying for God’s protection over schools in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
